King James Version Onlyism...Is It Here to Stay?

If you live in the “Bible Belt” in America, then you know that among Conservative, Fundamental Baptist circles, THE Bible is the Authorized Version of 1611 – aka the King James Bible. For reasons I cannot explain, the KJVonly doctrine is not losing steam. In fact, some might argue that it is gaining headway in some circles. Why is that? What keeps a movement like this going? And will this movement ever fizzle away?

If you have been keeping up with the latest KJVonly scuttlebutt, then you know that Jack Schaap has entered the center stage of controversy within the movement itself. As President of Hyles-Anderson College and pastor of First Baptist Church of Hammond, Ind., Schaap has a wide range of influence in the world of KJVonlyism. He lately reported his view on the KJVO as well as the proposed it as the historic view HAC. Instead of arguing for the inspiration of the KJV, he argued for a less extreme position of its perfect preservation for the English speaking world. Splitting hairs? Maybe…one holds to double inspiration and the other for an English translation usurping the superiority of the original languages. But there has been a large outcry within the KJVonly community against Schaap (check out the articles by Gail Riplinger, Russell Anderson, & Dave Baker).
